From fluent to polished
The Advanced English speaking course (CEFR C1–C2) is for people who already speak comfortably but want to sound natural, precise and persuasive. It suits graduates and professionals, IELTS candidates aiming for band 7 or higher, and anyone whose job depends on presentations, negotiations or formal writing.
At this level the gap between “good” and “excellent” English is made of small things: choosing the right modal, using an inverted conditional for emphasis, picking an idiom that fits, structuring a long sentence so it is easy to follow. The course trains those details and gives you a stage — debates, presentations and discussions on abstract topics — to use them.
Advanced syllabus
- Review of intermediate grammar — perfect tenses, conditionals, modals, passive voice, reported speech and common errors.
- Advanced tenses — past perfect continuous, future continuous, future perfect continuous and perfect modals (“She must have gone home”).
- Advanced conditionals — mixed conditionals, conditionals in the passive and inverted conditionals (“Had I known, I would have helped”).
- Causative form — “I had my car repaired”, “I got my hair cut”, causative passive.
- Inversion for emphasis — “Never have I seen…”, “Only after the meeting did I understand…”.
- Advanced modality — deduction, speculation, advice, obligation and past actions.
- Advanced sentence structures — complex sentences, ellipsis, nominalisation and parallel structure.
- The subjunctive mood — “If I were you…”, “It's essential that she be here”, formal suggestions.
- Advanced punctuation and writing style — cohesive devices, tone and emphasis.
- Idiomatic and figurative language — idioms, metaphors, similes, proverbs and sayings.
- Review and application — essays, formal letters and reports; debates and presentations on abstract topics; peer correction.
How advanced classes are run
Advanced batches are discussion-led. A typical class starts with a short reading — a newspaper article, an academic extract or a podcast clip — moves to the target language point, and ends with a debate or presentation where you are expected to use it. Trainers give detailed feedback on accuracy, range and naturalness, not just correctness.
| Goal | What you practise |
|---|---|
| Sound natural | Idioms, collocations and phrasal verbs in context |
| Be precise | Perfect modals, mixed conditionals and the subjunctive |
| Be persuasive | Structured arguments, emphasis through inversion, rhetorical questions |
| Write formally | Essays, reports and formal letters with cohesive devices |
